Meet the team

Marcel Imbach, Founder

Hailing from Au, Switzerland, Marcel Imbach is a highly accomplished wood engineer with more than two decades of experience. His work includes the planning, production and installation of complex custom interior engineering projects, ranging from private residences to luxury retail spaces, high-end commercial buildings, private jets and custom crafted yachts. His clients have included Foster + Partners, Gulfstream and Louis Vuitton, among many others.

Marcel’s interest in the industry began in his teen years, after completing a four-year apprenticeship at the Kloster Fischingen, where he learned traditional Swiss woodworking, and the restoration of antique furniture and classic interiors.

At age 22, Marcel left Switzerland to work at Hertco Kitchens in Ferndale, WA, learning American-style cabinetry. Two years later, he returned to his homeland, where he worked around the globe for Switzerland’s top international interior architectural design companies (Erich Keller AG and Rothlisberger), ultimately working his way up to Managing Director and Partner at Rothlisberger LLC in New York City.

In 2017, Marcel and his family moved to Kitsap to establish Vibe Coworks, the West Sound region’s largest shared workspace and coworking community, subsequently working at Tim Ryan Construction to support the successful completion of The Centennial, where Vibe Coworks is located.

With a vision for bringing ideas to life and a commitment to customer satisfaction, Phenom Woodworks is the company that brings together the favorite parts of his career.

Simon Jeker, Partner

Simon was born and raised in Aarau, Switzerland. He is an experienced woodworker and cabinet maker.

He started his career as a Jazz Saxophonist and composer receiving a scholarship from Berklee College of Music, which brought him to the United States in his early twenties. After starting a family and being a stay-at-home dad, he fell in love with woodworking and started a hobby wood shop. Specializing in home furniture over time, the hobby shop became a professional business where he created and designed new concepts and pieces, blending wood with steel, concrete and resin under the name of Island Woods and Design.

During the pandemic, he was forced to close his shop to homeschool his children. Later, to further hone his skills, he completed an apprenticeship at Westside Custom Cabinets as a cabinet maker, and has built custom cabinets for many homes in Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo and elsewhere.

One day, Simon’s wife came home and told him she met someone whose husband is Swiss and happens to be a woodworker as well. He knew they had to meet. During a cheese fondue dinner with both their families the two connected and, after sharing their stories and same vision for woodworking, he knew he was destined to join Marcel as a partner at Phenom Woodworks.
